Your Session

What working together looks like

I photograph your family where life naturally unfolds, at home or in the places you already love spending time together. Without posing or directing, I document everyday life, revealing connection, belonging, and the ways your family shows up for one another.

These sessions are about preserving a truthful record of your family as you are today, creating photographs that remind you where you belong and the relationships that matter most.

After your session, you'll select your favorite images from a private online gallery. A range of digital and printed artwork options are available, so you can choose how you'd like to live with your photos — wall pieces, albums, or simple digital files for sharing.

You're never locked into a one-size-fits-all package. Selections are flexible and built around the images you actually love.

Common Questions

Family sessions are available in three lengths: up to 2 hours, up to 5 hours, or up to 8 hours.

The right fit depends on how much of your family’s everyday life you would like photographed. Shorter sessions offer a glimpse into your time together, while longer sessions allow more space for routines, relationships, and family life to unfold naturally.

If you’re new to documentary family photography or aren’t quite sure which session is right for you, the shorter session can be a great way to experience the process before committing to a longer session.

If you’re still unsure, I’m happy to help guide you through the options.

Yes. Every family session includes a custom lay-flat album and access to a private online gallery for viewing and print ordering.

My goal is to create photographs that can be experienced beyond the screen. Albums and printed photographs become part of everyday life. They live on coffee tables, bookshelves, and walls, where they can be revisited and shared again and again.

A documentary family session is about observing the life that is already happening. Instead of posing or directing, I spend time with your family as the day naturally unfolds.

You might spend time at home, visit a favorite place, share a meal, play a game, go for a walk, or simply enjoy being together. Rather than following a shot list, I photograph the relationships, routines, and interactions that are already part of your family life.

Most families tell me it feels less like a photo session and more like having a friend come over to spend time with them. The only instruction is to be yourself.

They don’t need to.

One of the benefits of a documentary family session is that there are no expectations for children to sit still, smile at the camera, or behave a certain way. Kids are free to be themselves.

Whether they’re energetic, shy, playful, curious, or somewhere in between, their personalities are part of your family story. Some of the most meaningful photographs happen when children are simply being themselves and interacting naturally with the people around them.

The goal isn’t perfect behavior. It’s capturing your family as you are.

Most sessions take place in your home, where everyday life naturally unfolds, and families tend to feel most comfortable.

For longer sessions, there may also be time to visit a favorite place, explore your neighborhood, or include another meaningful location as part of your day.

The best setting is the one that feels natural to your family. If you’re unsure where your session should take place, I’m happy to help you decide.

Wear your everyday clothes, whatever that looks like for your family.

Whether that’s jeans and a T-shirt, pajamas on a Saturday morning, your hair in a ponytail, or no makeup at all, there is no need to dress up, coordinate outfits, or prepare for the camera.

The goal is simply to show up as yourself and spend time together in your comfy everyday clothes.

No. I photograph you living out your everyday life, however that looks, and however it unfolds naturally.

Rather than directing or posing, I spend time with your family and photograph the interactions, relationships, and routines that are already part of your everyday life.

Absolutely.

Pets are family too, and they’re always welcome to be part of your session. I love including the animals that share your family’s story.

Some of the most meaningful interactions happen between people and their pets, and those relationships deserve to be photographed too.
